Behold the Lamb

Gather ‘round ye children, come

Listen to the old, old story

Of the pow’r of death undone

By an infant born of glory

Son of God, Son of Man

The world seems really, really messed up right now.

The truth surely is that it’s always been this messed up, but we just have media outlets to highlight the depravity, to showcase murder and make celebrities (as awful as that sounds) of terrorists. Truth is, there has always been depravity. There has always been murder. There have always been terrorists.

But at times like these, we’re a bit more aware of these evils among us, a little more fearful of what the coming days might hold. It’s also a time when we struggle to know how to come to the aid of our brothers and sisters who are suffering abroad.

I think that means that these days it is absolutely essential that we take a step back from media coverage and remember—really remember—that God is here, he is still in control, and he has a plan.

One of the ways I remember that God is sovereign is by listening to Andrew Peterson’s “Behold the Lamb of God.”

It’s the Christmas album that isn’t really just about Christmas, but about how God, across the generations, was sovereignly bringing about his global plan of redemption.

In the Scripture-soaked songs Peterson reminds us that:

So in heaven and earth and below

Every knee will bow in worship

Every tongue will proclaim

That Jesus, he reigns with the angels

If you need a bit of encouragement, a reminder that we serve a God who really knows, cares, and has the power to carry out His plans, then give a listen to “Behold the Lamb of God.” It’s about the God who is near, and has always been.
